Amar Singh Send To Judicial Custody

Former General Secretary of Samajwadi Party Amar Singh was send to judicial custody to Tihar Jail in connection with the 22nd July 2008 cash for vote scam. Amar will be placed in the Tihar jail cell No. 1. There he will stay with former Communications Minister A. Raja. Amar’s lawyer filed a bail application but the courts rejected that and send Amar Singh to jail.

Prior to that Amar Singh refused to be present in the court referring to health grounds but when court asked for medical report he went to the court straight away. Amar's lawyer told in the morning that he has filed a petition stating that Amar’s health condition is not good he is at bed rest.

The plea also stated that kidney transplant of Amar Singh was done few years ago and since then he have to go to hospital regularly. He is also suffering with high blood pressure. Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal on this particular asked Amar’s lawyer to submit medical report of Amar’s health. Judge also said the report should mention the date when he had that kidney transplant, and how many times he went to the doctor after that. Segal asked Amar’s lawyer to submit the medical report till 12.30 pm. After which Amar Singh reached the court. Court heard his plea and decision was postponed to 03.30pm. But the court rejected their petition at 03:30 pm for 14 days judicial custody in Tihar Jail was ordered.

Sehgal on August 25 had summoned Amar Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste, Ashok Argal and Mahavir Bhagora. Kulaste and Bhagora also been sent to jail in judicial custody for 14 days.
