2G scam - CAG to explain loss figure today

New Delhi: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), Vinod Rai, is expected to depose before the Joint Parliament Committee (JPC) in the 2G spectrum allocation scam probe on Tuesday.

Rai is expected to explain to the parliamentary panel how the government's auditor arrived at a presumptive loss figure of Rs 1.76 lakh crore. His former lead auditor RP Singh appeared before the JPC on Monday and reportedly stuck to his stand of pegging the presumptive loss at Rs 2,645 crore.

CAG Vinod Rai, in his deposition on Tuesday, is also expected to counter the figure floated by Singh.

Documents accessed by CNN-IBN show that the CAG is likely to point out that the first loss calculated by RP Singh's team was actually pegged at Rs 48,374 crore which was based on the Swan Telecom offer.

Vinod Rai is expected to tell the JPC that it was RP Singh himself who first quantified the loss figure at Rs 1.76 lakh crores based on the 3G auction.
