2G Scam - Joshi likely to clarify on influencing CAG

New Delhi: The chairman of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC), Murli Manohar Joshi, will on Wednesday answer all the allegations on influencing the CAG report on 2G losses when he speaks at a function where Both Vinod Rai and RP Singh are slated to be present.

A news channel has accessed a letter that shows he was in touch with the auditor even before the report was tabled, this on a day when CAG Vinod Rai defended the Rs 1.76 lakh crore loss estimate before the JPC.

RP Singh earlier totally demolished the Rs 1.76 lakh crore loss calculated by the CAG, some of the questions put to Rai clearly emanated from the contradictory position taken by Singh.
Were the views of the Principal Auditor RP Singh sought on the final report or was he forced to sign the report?

The questions which still remain are -

- Was the report about a performance audit or was it about a transaction audit?
- Why did you highlight a notional loss and not the actual loss in your final report?
- Why does RP Singh say that he was totally let down by you and your deputy Rekha Gupta ?

Vinod Rai outrightly denied all the allegations against him of trying to influence RP Singh or coercing him into signing of the report. In fact he stated clearly on Tuesday that the first audit that was done by Singh itself pointed out to a loss of Rs 1.02 lakh crores. But there was a new twist on Tuesday in the ongoing parliamentary probe in the 2G scam.

The letter written by CAG senior official RB Sinha to Deputy CAG Rekha Gupta exclusively accessed by CNN IBN is being used by the congress to accuse PAC Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi of influencing the CAG probe.

The letter reads, there tremendous pressure on Joshi from Parliament, media etc about investigations being done by the PAC in the 2G scam. The probe if further delayed would provide an opportunity to the executive to cover up.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, "Joshi must answer what he was trying to do."
