Advani's 38-day long yatra ends in Delhi today

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader LK Advani's 38-day long Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption will end in New Delhi on Sunday. The 84-year-old veteran leader of Indian politics, who flagged off his rally in Bihar on October 11, has been on the road for 38-days covering well over 7000 kms.

Advani reached Ramlila Maidan on Sunday and will address a rally.

Representatives of Shiv Sena and AIADMK are also attending the Ramlila Maidan rally.
Advani has proven one thing for sure, he may be aging, but he is certainly not weakening.

He, however, clarified that his sixth nationwide yatra was not about projecting himself as a prime ministerial candidate.

"No, this is not about me becoming Prime Minister. It's about the party, about BJP" he said.
He maintained that the entire idea of his Jan Chetna Yatra was to build support for his former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni and other BJP mps, recently bailed out in the cash-for-votes scam, and also focus on the corruption in the UPA regime. The question on Advani's real motive still remains.

Advani has said that his yatra's single biggest achievement is the fact that Sudheendra Kulkarni and two former BJP MPs were released on bail in the cash-for-votes case. He also questioned why Congress President Sonia Gandhi was quiet on important issues.

"For a person who is supposedly no 1 in the political hierarchy of the UPA what shocks and astounds me is that she's not known to many in the country. Not many even know what are her views on various issues," said Advani.

Congress leaders, throughout the duration of Advani's yatra, have said that he went ahead with the nation-wide rally for himself and not for the BJP or the country.

Rashid Alvi said, "This yatra is only about Advani."

Some BJP leaders like Uma Bharti and Rajnath Singh have openly asked for Advani to remain the Prime Minister candidate from BJP. That is something that hasn't gone down with other prime ministerial hopefuls Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jailtley and Narendra Modi.

Sources said that Modi refused to sit next to Advani when the yatra was in Gujarat, a response from the Gujarat Chief Minister perhaps who had to cut a sorry figure as Advani praised his arch rival Nitish Kumar on his own home turf.

Advani's yatra, which had its fair share of controversies from cash distribution of journalists in Madhya Pradesh to Advani reaching Karnataka at the time when former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa was in Jail, it seemed these episodes diluted the very purpose with which it all began.
