Malegaon blast accused out of jail after 5 years

Mumbai: Days after getting bail, the seven accused in the 2006 Malegaon blasts case walked out of jail on Wednesday after five years.

A special court in Mumbai granted them bail on November 5, after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the court that it won't oppose the bail plea of the accused.

After the Maharashtra ATS made the nine arrests and filed a chargesheet in 2006, the probe was handed over to the CBI. The NIA took charge of the investigation after the Swami Aseemanand's confession that it was the right-wing Hindu fundamentalist groups who were behind the Malegaon blasts.

The NIA told the court, "During the course of further investigation, the NIA after the revelation of Swami Aseemanand, arrested in the Mecca Masjid blast case, reviewed the collected evidence and collected fresh evidence. The investigation has brought out several new facts and circumstances."
For the relatives of the accused in Malegaon, the news came as a huge relief.

While the NIA's decision to allow bail is being seen as a blow to the ATS and the CBI investigation, relatives of the accused called it a bitter-sweet victory.

The accused and the charges against them:

1) Noor-ul-Huda (24), Labourer Charge: Bomb planter at Hameediya mosque

2) Shabbir Masiullah (34), Owner of a battery shop Charge: Conspirator

3) Raees Ahmed Rajjab Ali (35) Masiullah's brother-in-law, partner in Masiullah's battery unit Charge: Alleged Conspirator and bomb planter

4) Salman Farsi (40), Unani doctor Charge: Conspiracy
