2G verdict - AG to advise PM on review petition

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday met senior Cabinet members Kapil Sibal, Salman Khursheed, Pranab Mukherjee and P Chidambaram to chalk a way out of the 2G mess.

It was a preliminary meeting to get a clear understanding of the judgment of the Supreme Court.

Talking about the meeting, Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said, "We had a presentation in which salient features of judgement were discussed. It was an exercise in informing the PM and the group of what happened in court."

Meanwhile, according to sources, the Attorney General will give a final opinion on whether to file a review petition against the order.

The government will take a final call on the issue after the Attorney General gives his opinion.

Sources further said that the Cabinet members also discussed what should be the new policy towards spectrum sale and if a new law needs to be framed.

They also discussed whether to move a leave petition on the recent Supreme Court order on mandatory prosecution within four months.

The Supreme Court had cancelled 122 licences for mobile networks issued in 2008.
