Jhansi | SP worker 'fires' at BDO, injures self

Jhansi: Despite several warnings by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, that included expelling partymen for goondaism, Samajwadi Party workers continue to defy their chief's orders by acts of violent behaviour and hooliganism.

On Sunday night, a local Samajwadi Party worker, Bharat Singh Yadav, allegedly stormed into a Block Development Officer's house in Chirgaon, Jhansi, and opened fire at him. While SK Srivastava suffered injuries to his leg and is currently in the district hospital, a case of attempt to murder is yet to be registered against Yadav.

The BDO claimed that the attack was premeditated revenge for filing an FIR against the worker for apparently rigging the 2010 election to the legislative council.

"At around 8:45 pm, he (Yadav) came and said that he wants to talk with me. Then I took him into my house. He asked that why had I registered an FIR against him. He asked in an aggressive tone, 'Should I show you how to fire a gun?' Then he took the revolver from the hands of a man who accompanied him. He fired it on me," said Srivastava. "I don't know which party he belongs to," he added.

Meanwhile, Yadav himself was injured in the incident. Yadav's wife Kalyani Devi also happens to be a local block head.
