UP results a very good lesson for me | Rahul

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has conceded defeat in Uttar Pradesh and has taken the responsibility for the poor show of the party. He said, "I was leading and we lost. It is my responsibility."

The Congress leader, who had headed the Congress campaign in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, said that the results were a big lesson for him, adding, "I have promised villagers that I will be them. I will remain there."

Rahul further said that he wanted to congratulate Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh Yadav for the win in the state assembly elections.

He, however, said that it was too early to analyse why the Congress did not perform well in the elections.

Rahul said, "Organisationally, we were not strong… we have to correct fundamentals as we are weak fundamentally in Uttar Pradesh."

The Congress leader conceded that the party had not done well in the whole of UP, but said that he would view the work as working for people and would continue to do so.
