Satyamev Jayate | The impact of Aamir Khan's TV show

It's not easy to get the kind of response Aamir Khan's show 'Satyamev Jayate' is receiving. The TV show has generated a lot of enthusiasm towards the issue of female foeticide. The first episode of 'Satyamev Jayate' had featured some alarming stats about the mindset of the society towards different sexes.

However, some of the states have shown the will to change the mindset as an after-effect of 'Satyamev Jayate'. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met Aamir Khan to discuss the possible strategies to combat the issue of female foeticide. The Chief Minister was compelled to call an emergency meeting to formulise a plan against the deteriorating sex ration in some parts of Rajasthan. 'Satyamev Jayate' had invited two journalists who had done remarkable work in exposing the racket of sex determination in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Rajasthan Government took one more step to curb the problem. Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court Arun Mishra has given green signal to set up a fast track court for expediting trial in the female foeticide cases.

Madhya Pradesh is another Indian state that has taken 'Satyamev Jayate' seriously. The Madhya Pradesh Health Department suspended the licenses of 65 Medical Termination of Pregnancy Centres for not submitting their final reports. This should be considered a good step simply because it's the only way to evoke some fear in the minds of wrong doers. Further, the submitted reports will provide a chance to look into the previous cases.

Apart from these visible impacts, that too after just six days of the first episode, people have taken oath to fight the distinction between the two sexes. Many have come out of their shells and have accepted their faults, and vowed the pledge to fight the problem.

The show's impact on the common man was clearly visible when the official site of Satyamev Jayate crashed within minutes after the telecast of the first episode. Almost 1,00,000 people dialed in to talk to Aamir Khan on the numbers flashed on the site.

'Satyamev Jayate' fetched Aamir an unlikely admirer in Bal Thackeray who praised the actor for his noble gestures.

It's not a small feat to achieve in the first week of telecast. Let's see what Aamir Khan does in the second episode of 'Satyamev Jayate'. Will the momentum keep going even after the second episode?
