Assembly polls - The big battle of UP in February

New Delhi: The big fight has begun. Within moments of Election commission announcing the poll dates, parties defined their strategies. The biggest battled of them is in Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls in 7 phases.

It's now turning out to be Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati vs Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul hopes to bring his party back in reckoning after over 2 decades.

The BSP, reeling under corruption charges, a February election is bad timing though it puts up a brave face.

Samajwadi Party hopes to cycle back to power with Akhilesh Yadav's youth being pitched against Rahul's youth card.

The Congress hopes to come back to power in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa to counter Anna Hazare's campaign.

Sonia Gandhi has told her party that Anna needs to be countered electorally Congress hopes that a victory in these states would negate Anna's anti-congress stance.

The Election Commission on Saturday announced poll dates for 5 states. UP will have a 7-phase election spread across February. The other states - Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa will have a single-phase poll each.
