New Delhi: Alliance talks for the Uttar Pradesh polls between long-time allies the BJP and the JD(U) have failed. The JD(U) has decided not to field any candidate as a mark of protest against the BJP after the party did not concede to the JD(U)'s demands for at least 3 dozen seats in the state.
The JD(U) leadership has, however, said that the party workers are free to contest as independents.
The BJP said that it will go it alone in all poll-bound states except Punjab where it will tie up with the Akali Dal.
"We will fight the elections on our own. There will be no alliance with any party except in Punjab where we will ally with Akali Dal. We will contest elections on our own in other states," BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said.
