New Delhi: As the government prepares its strategy for the Lokpal Bill debate in Parliament, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to move amendments to the Bill. Sources say the BJP plans to move four amendments to the Bill. It is against the setting up of Lokayuktas in states, saying it violates India's federal structure.
The BJP also wants the minority clause to be dropped from the Bill as the party says it's unconstitutional.
The BJP also wants the Lokpal to have supervisory and administrative control over the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Left Front wants the Lokpal to have a separate investigation wing. It will also ask for a broadbased selection panel for the Lokpal.
Meanwhile, most of the parties including the RJD, the BJP, the JDU and even the Congress will oppose Section 24, which allows the Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman to act against a Member of Parliament (MP) on the basis of the Lokpal report even before the trial is over.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav are also expected to object to the inclusion of the Prime Minister and wide policing powers of the Lokpal. However, the Shiv Sena will object to the need for a Lokpal itself.
