What was to be nice boat ride at Pulicat Lake turned horribly wrong when the overload boat of two families capsized. 25 people had got on to a fishing boat that could take only ten. So far only three seem to have survived the accident.
Even as rescue and search operations are still on, the police have arrested the boatman who has came of it alive. The incident has once again highlighted glaring violations as the boat was unlicensed and was in an area not meant for boating.
The accident is a grim reminder of the severe lack of safety measures being followed by people during pleasure trips.
Despite several tragic instances in the past, no lessons seem to have been learnt and precious lives continue to be lost.
