Cold wave claims nine more lives in North India

New Delhi: As the year slowly draws to a close, the mercury continues to plummet. The Met Department has warned that the cold wave in parts of North India will intensify and a dense fog is likely to return in the next 24 hours.

The cold claimed nine more lives on Friday taking the toll this winter to a 123. A majority of these deaths were reported in Uttar Pradesh alone.

As temperature dipped, Gorakhpur recorded 5.8 degrees celsius. The minimum temperature in Lucknow hovered around 6 degrees.

Amritsar and Jalandhar in Punjab recorded the lows of 3 degrees celsius each. And it was 6 degrees celsius in Delhi.
