New Delhi: It's not just the Lokpal Bill that the government is coming under fire for, but the minority issue is also creating difficulties for the government. Sachar Committee member Abu Saleh Shariff has claimed that the condition of the Muslim community has actually worsened under the UPA regime.
This came even as the UPA introduced a quota for Muslim OBCs ahead of the Uttar Pradesh polls.
The Opposition parties have taken on the UPA for announcing a 4.5 per cent minority quota within the existing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in jobs and admission to educational institutions.
Shariff called it a political gimmick. "Where are the systematic programmes related to muslims? The political system is playing a gimmick," Shariff said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also dismissed the move as unconstitutional and the Left alleged that it was a pre-poll gimmick by the Congress.
