Chennai: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met DMK chief M Karunanidhi in Chennai on the second day of his visit on Monday and topping the agenda was the Mullaperiyar Dam row. Kanimozhi was also present in what was her first meeting after she got bail in the 2G Scam.
Sources say Karunanidhi requested the Prime Minister to ensure that the water level is increased in the dam, He asked the Prime Minister to implement the 2006 Supreme Court order on 142 feet water level.
This is the the Prime Minister's first visit to the southern state after the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK took over the reins in May.
Meanwhile, DMDK founder Vijaykant along with other party leaders courted arrest after they assembled for a black flag protest against the Prime Minister, alleging the Centre's bias against Tamil Nadu on the Mullaperiyar Dam.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Ramanujam Block at the Madras University hall.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is reportedly sore with the federal government for not heeding her requests for financial assistance and additional power and kerosene allocation to the state.
