New Delhi: The Congress and BJP on Monday resumed the fight over Lokpal Bill in the new year, with both the national political parties blaming each other for the fiasco in the Rajya Sabha.
While the Congress party said that they were committed to a strong Lokpal Bill, the BJP said that the government is indulging in false campaign against the party on the anti-corruption bill.
"Our party is fighting for a strong Lokpal. BJP is not doing constructive politics," Congress Spokesperson Manish Tiwari said.
Leading the fight from the BJP side, spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "The Government is indulging in false campaign against the BJP on Lokpal bill. Why discussion was not started on Lokpal on the second day of special session in Rajya Sabha? Why Pranab did not speak in Rajya Sabha and why Leader of the Hose (Rajya Sabha) Manmohan Singh kept quiet."
"Why the Prime Minister chose to keep silence in Rajya Sabha when Parliamentary convention was shamed by the ruling party, how can he bring confidence and fight corruption," asked the senior BJP leader.
He said why Pranab Mukherjee did not intervene in the Rajya Sabha, asking is it because he knew that they did not enjoy the majority in the Rajya Sabha?
"This shows that Congress does not want the effective Lokpal because they are going to be the first causality of an effective Lokpal in the country. We will go to any extend to bring Lokpal Bill," he said.
However, he refused to comment on the Rajya Sabha Chairman's role. "We have serious reservations on the Rajya Sabha Chairman's ruling to adjourn the House on that day but will not comment further on this issue," he said.
