Bangalore: Four officers from the Karnataka Fire Department have been suspended following the death of a 25-year-old woman in a mock fire drill in Bangalore.
The mock fire drill to teach safety techniques to the 1,200 employees of Bombay Rayon that took place on Friday killed Nalina who was climbing down a rope.
The officers District fire officer Devraj, Narayan Swamy, Marianna and Nizar Ahmed have been suspended pending enquiry.
Nalina volunteered to jump off the third floor only to find the rope snapping. Shocked colleagues and fire police officials watched as she fell to her death.
The DG of the Fire Department had earlier admitted that there were serious lapses. "What happened was unfortunate. We do admit there could have been procedural lapses and we are investigating into it but what we will do now is that we shall look into our safety operating procedures and make our mock fire drills more secure, " said AR Infant.
