Bangalore: A Bangalore engineering student is in the running to get an experiment he dreamed of, done aboard the International Space Station. He has also been dreaming about a live streaming of the experiment on YouTube.
YouTube offered 14 to 18-year-old students the chance to get an experiment they had dreamed of, done aboard the International Space Station. Sachin Kukke, one among six worldwide semifinalists, is the winner from the Asia Pacific region. The achievement is remarkable considering he is the son of a Bangalore police constable.
"I am proud of my son. I can't believe that he has won this," Sachin's mother Vijaylakshmi Kukke said.
Sachin was curious what the absence of gravity in space would do to the heat conducting properties of a special type of liquid, called FerroFluids.
"It's oil or water, with iron particles suspended in it. It is attracted to magnetic fields. I wanted to see how it would behave in space," Sachin said.
Sachin has already started planning his next move. He has been promised a free flight to Washington, a Lenovo laptop and a taste of zero gravity. But what he wants is victory and a chance to see his experiment done in space and streamed live on YouTube.
