Jammu and Kashmir avalanche | Snowfall hampers rescue operations

Srinagar: Twin avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir have left 16 Army jawans dead. The avalanches occurred in the Sonmarg and Gurez areas near the Line of Control.

Thirteen others were saved on Thursday but three remain trapped. Rescue operations have been hampered due to heavy snowfall.

Authorities fear that the death toll could rise.

Meanwhile, two members of the Sonmarg development authority have gone missing. The State government has now sought the help of the Indian Air Force and paratroopers to rescue them.
