Damascus: India has agreed to join the Arab league block against President Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria. India has sent its representative to the 'Friends of Syria' meet in Tunis, that has been convened by the US and the Arab League to determine options for Assad's successor.
The meet has been boycotted by Russia and China.
Earlier, the UN General Assembly has voted in favour of a resolution urging Assad to step down. The Arab nations-backed resolution condemns human rights violations in Syria and calls for an end to the violence.
India voted in favour of the resolution, taking a U-turn from the February 4 voting on a similar measure.
A statement from India to the UN General Assembly said, "Our support for the resolution adopted by this Assembly today is in accordance with our support for the efforts by the Arab League for a peaceful resolution of the crisis through a Syrian-led inclusive political process."
