5 bogies of Doon Express get derailed near Jaunpur, 4 dead

Four people died after five bogies of the 18-coach Doon express got derailed near Mahrawa station in Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday afternoon. Doon Express 13009 was going to Dehradun from Howrah.

Most people have been rescued and the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.
The District Magistrate said that the accident occurred at 1:13 pm. The accident site is about 35 kilometres from Jaunpur District headquarters.

ADG Railways said, "Seven-eight people have been injured in the Doon Express mishap."
Railways issued a statement saying that sleeper coaches S6, S7, S8 and SE jumped the track and tilted while S9 and two second-class bogies got derailed.

Railways CPRO Anil Saxena said, "We have started taking the affected passengers to hospitals. Initial phase of rescue operations have started. District administration has also sent their teams to the spot."

Jaunpur DM confirmed that three people died in the accident.

A medical team from Lucknow and a rescue team from Jaunpur have been rushed to the site of the accident.

Rescue operations are underway and more details are awaited.
