Divide UP into four parts, Maya tells Centre

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday said that she favoured the reorganisation of the state to ensure better development.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, she said that the cabinet has approved a resolution for creation of Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, Awadh Pradesh and Paschim Pradesh which would be tabled in the session beginning November 21.

The BSP chief said that her government had decided to make a proposal of reorganising Uttar Pradesh into four new states and send the proposal to the Central government for approval.
Mayawati said that the division of the state was needed to enable better administration and development of the state.

Accusing the Centre of unfavourable approach, Mayawati pointed that formation of smaller state was the jurisdiction of the Central government, but both BJP and the Congress never took concrete initiative on the issue.

She also blamed the Centre for the lack of development of the state.

"UP has not been able to develop because of the indifferent attitude of the Central government. It has always been neglected," said Mayawati.

Taking on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the chief minister said, "I had requested for a financial assistance package for UP, but the PM has not responded."
