Explain Sweden link, PMO writes to N-activist

New Delhi: In fresh development in connection with the Kudankulam nuclear power plant controversy, Minister of State (PMO) V Narayanasamy has written to anti-nuclear activist Uday Kumar, asking him to explain his links to Sweden-funded NGO called IDEA.

Narayanasamy has said that foreign currency accounts of three NGOs spending money on the anti-nuclear movement have been suspended.

The PMO has decided to file a counter to Uday Kumar's defamation case against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

While Narayanaswamy has said that he had no intention of defaming Uday Kumar, the latter has said that he is only part of the expert panel of the NGO.

The MoS has also said that the activist and his wife too run an NGO called Saccer and that there is proof that they have got funds from abroad.

Uday Kumar has said that he will file a defamation case against the Prime Minister.

He had criticised the Prime Minister over his statement that the NGOs based in the US were fuelling the Kudankulam nuclear plant protests, asking him to either prove the charge or step down.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to India Peter Burleigh has said that America has no objection to the nuclear programme in India.
