Google doodle travels with Ibn Battuta from Morocco to China

New Delhi: Google recreates the long journey that Ibn Battuta undertook seven centuries ago on the doodle that it put up on its home page in the Arab countries to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Moroccan explorer.

Regarded as the greatest medieval Arab traveller and his book the Rihlah describes his travels that covered more than 120,000 kilometres tha covered an areas of 44 modern countries.

Ibn Battuta had served as a Qazi in India for about six years during Muhammad bin Tughluq's rule and travelled extensively across the country. He began his travels at the age of in 1325 at the age of 21.

Google has put up a scrollable Ibn Battuta doodle that depicts his journey through six slides, starting and ending in Morocco via Egypt, Turkey, India, China and other countries. The doodle also shows Delhi's Qutub Minar.

The last slide shows Ibn Battuta back in his home country Morocco dictating an account of his journeys to Ibn Juzayy, that would become his book Rihla.

The Ibn Battuta doodle is Google's 1311th doodle since the first ever Google doodle back on August 30, 1998.
