Bangalore | 60-year-old beaten to death by teenagers

Bangalore: A 60-year-old man identified as Alageshan was brutally beaten to death by two teenagers. The victim had confronted them after they allegedly misbehaved with his niece.

Life will never be the same again for his Alageshan's niece, a class 9 student. Fed up of being misbehaved with by two teenagers over the last several weeks, she had complained to her family on Monday night. "On the road, they used to dance and call out our names while going on the cycle," she said.

When her mother confronted the boys, her uncle Alagesan who lives next door also joined in. But the boys attacked him and pushed him to the ground, where he suffered a massive heart attack and died. The incident has shocked their Bangalore neighbourhood. Residents say that the law and order has gone out of hand.

Social worker Dharma Gowda said, "We've complained a lot of times. Usually when kids go to the school in the morning and come back in the evening, thse people wait to tease them and they pull their hair also."

The culprits have been booked. Additional Commissioner of Police Sunil Kumar said, "We've booked the culprits for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and the three people have been taken into custody."

But women in the city doubt if this would be enough. They say such people who misbehave will soon be back on the prowl after lying low for a while unless concrete steps are taken.
