New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday will be taking up another much-anticipated piece of legislation, the Judicial Accountability Bill.
The bill seeks to set standards for judges and a credible mechanism to investigate into complaints of misbehaviour and incapacity of a judge of the Supreme Court or High Court.
It also proposes to form a panel to incorporate a provision to have in-camera proceedings of the committee which will scrutinize complaints against judges. Under this Bill, judges will have to declare their assets and liabilities, and also that of their spouse and children.
The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha last year and then sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee. The panel recommended that there be a provision that restrains judges from making unwarranted comments against other constitutional bodies in court.
